on the bus ride from Cambodia to Laos, i met Hester, a 19 year old dutch girl who was traveling around Southeast Asia after volunteering for a while at an orphanage in Thailand. we got on really well and ended up sharing this great little bungalow in Don Dhet, one of the “4 thousand islands” of southern Laos, right on the Mekong river - for only US$3,00 a night! that’s US$ 1,50 each for one of the best views in all of my travels through Asia… surreal.
